Choose a material for building color, mood, and a consistent photographic style.
Photography first became my way of thinking about the world when I realised that the camera gave me something a brush could not: a way to hold a moment still while I decided what it meant. Before the digital years there were film cameras, and before that a pencil and paper, but the frame always felt like the honest container. Buying my first serious body felt less like an upgrade and more like enrolling in a longer course, one that never really ends. Everything I learned about light, composition and patience arrived through repetition, frame after frame.
Studying architecture trained my eye in ways photography still benefits from. Buildings taught me to read a subject as structure: geometry, proportion, rhythm, and the way weight distributes itself across a surface. That education sits underneath most of the images I make, whether I am working on a street, a landscape or a quiet interior. It also taught me that craft matters, that the technical decisions behind a picture are as deliberate as the aesthetic ones, and that patience is a tool you learn to use deliberately rather than a virtue you wait for.
The shift from drawing and painting to photography was gradual rather than sudden. Each format asks something different of you. A brush rewards gesture and patience; a camera rewards timing and attention. What I value now in both is the honesty of the surface, the way a texture or a colour can carry the mood of a whole piece. Photographic work travels further when it is shared, and the network of people who look at images, comment honestly, and pass along references has shaped my practice more than any single workshop could.
Alongside personal work, I have built teaching materials and editing resources for other photographers. Presets, textures and short tutorials exist because a good workflow should be accessible: they shorten the distance between a finished photograph and a refined image, letting the time saved return to the creative decisions that matter. Sharing what you have learned is a form of continuation, a way of keeping the practice alive and moving. Everything here is offered in that spirit, as working material rather than as finished authority, useful to anyone who wants to develop a more consistent visual voice.
